USA – Dialled In who amongst the favourites for the 2011 Kentucky Derby was beaten in a small event by stablemate Equestrio. The race was run at a slow pace and did not suit Dialed In, who is still on course for the Kentucky Derby. His next run will be in the Florida Derby where trainer Nick Zito commented “You know the Florida Derby is going to have more speed."
UK – The Cheltenham Festival starts next Tuesday. This highlight of the week is the Cheltenham Gold Cup on Friday 18th March in which Imperial Commander is bidding to win the race in back to back years but will face stiff competition from previous winners Denman and Kauto Star as well as stiff opposition from young pretenders such as Long Run who won the King George VI Chase at Kempton earlier this year.
Germany – Law Society, the 1965 Irish Derby Winner, has died aged 29 at Gestut Isarland. He had been pensioned since 2008 but as a racehorse won five times from eight starts and earnings of $373,487
Australia – Black Caviar is due to run again this Saturday in the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington. Unbeaten in nine starts the filly is now the world’s highest rated sprinter and is already favourite for the sprints at Royal Ascot this year.
Argentina – Angiolo extended his reputation as the leading 2year old colt on dirt in the country with a fourth straight success when winning the Gran Premio Santiago Luro at Palermo.
USA - Rachel Alexandra has been confirmed as pregnant from her mating with Curlin on February 21. Her expected foaling date is February 1, according to a statement from Jess Jackson’s Stonestreet Stables Barbados – Zoom was awarded the Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup after passing the post second. Show Me the Money crossed the line three and a half lengths clear but was later relegated to eleventh for a highly dangerous incident earlier in the race.
